Frequently Asked Questions

How does this treatment help heal trauma?

It is based on a multidisciplinary intersection of physiology, psychology, ethology, biology, neuroscience, indigenous healing practices & medical biophysics.

How long has this been around?

The life work of Dr. Peter A Levine has been practised for over 40 decades.

How does it work?

The Somatic experience approach facilitates the completion of self-protective motor responses & the release of thwarted survival energy bound in the body; Thus addressing the root cause of trauma symptoms. This is approached by gently guiding clients to develop increasing tolerance for difficult bodily sensations & suppressed emotions.

What does Somatic Release feel like?

Often muscle twitching, quick painless often repetitive contractions as they start to release, as the muscles “wake up” & release after being stuck in a frozen contracted state, sometimes the nervous system doesn’t know whether to keep them tight or let them relax.

Where is trauma stored in the body?

It’s not physically held in the muscles or bones instead the need to protect oneself from perceived threats is stored in the memory of emotional centres of the brain, Such as the hippocampus of the amygdala. This activates the body whenever a situation reminds a person of the traumatic event.
